The Team


John Shuttleworth  – Head Chef

John Shuttleworth’s earliest memories of cooking are of him baking bread with his grandmother as a young boy. His career started at The Equinox Resort in Manchester, Vermont where he did a culinary internship as part of a diploma from The University of Derby. With a love of fine dining from the beginning, John honed his skills working at various Michelin starred establishments such as Mallory Court in England and Glenapp Castle in Scotland. He relocated to South Africa in 2008 with his wife Andrea, where he took up a position at Singita Game Lodges. John joined the Rust en Vrede team in 2009 as Sous chef under David Higgs. In July 2011, John took over as Head Chef of Rust en Vrede Restaurant.

He leads the team made up by Fabio Daniel, Sebastian Mlambo, Kilian Zietsman, Danian Pelston, Surine Barnard and Vandeline Pienaar in pastry.


Andrea Shuttleworth – Front of House

Andrea Shuttleworth joins John as part of the front of house team, having gained valuable experience working in Michelin Star and Relais & Chateaux establishments at home and abroad. Her experience on the floor is key to getting the staff training to level it is today.
